Alright - I never submit to this crap, but what the hell. Free blog entry, right? Besides all my LJ friends are doing it...

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

First name:

Ryan

Age:

35

Location:

The Manfort, South Minneapolis, MN. I've been here over 3 years now and love it. Especially that I can pretty much do whatever I want to make it more manfortish.

Occupation:

Self Employed - goobertech.com: web design and hosting services using the Drupal platform.
Otter's Saloon - Bouncer. (I find it amusing to think that after 6 years of college and 12 years as an engineer, this is now my listed "career" for facebook friends to see.)

Partner:

My bar? I'm hopelessly addicted to adding bottles to my chemistry set and experimenting to come up with new concoctions. See my martinis.

Otherwise... I've been married and divorced, suffered through and enjoyed quite a few relationships, and now am firmly single for the second time in my life. I don't see that changing any time soon, if ever. The loveliness of falling asleep and waking up to someone you enjoy every day is nice, but not compared the lack of responsibility and freedom that a bachelor's life and a space that's all yours offers. Call me selfish.

Kids:

Probably not unless there's a major accident. I've been in relationships that came with kids and thoroughly enjoyed the "daddy" role. But like the "partner" business above, the lack of responsibility and financial freedom is a clear winner. I think I'm much better in the Fun Uncle Ryan role.

Brothers/Sisters:

Adam and Kevin. They both used to have blogs on this site relating their stories of survival. Now we've all gone on with our lives. Adam is almost done with art school and will be looking for a "real job" in graphic design or similar. Kevin just finished college and moved to Madison to work for Epic.

Pets:

Sid and Luis. Both are pugs. Sid is always naughty and has been with me since he was born four years ago. Originally a gift from Santa for a wonderful little girl, he joined me at The Manfort when I moved in here. He's named after the sloth from the Pixar movie Ice Age. Luis was a rescue and a retired breeder. He joined Sid and I two summers ago. He's now 14 and sleeps a lot.

List the 3 biggest things going on in your life:

Shit - I hate questions like this. It feels like filling out a dating profile or something. But I'll go with first, second, and third: friends. I've got a large group of really great ones. Truly awesome friends, in fact. I love you all. From our Rock Band Tuesdays, to regular shenanigans, you all provide me with constant entertainment and a reason to get out of bed in the morning. (Besides trying to not go bankrupt.)

Parents:

Yup - I have those too. ;) They divorced when I was 13 and now have been with their new partners longer than they were together. My Mom lives in St. Cloud and works as a nurse administrator for in home care. I'm really proud of how she picked up her life when things were tough, went back to school, and now enjoys the benefits of all that hard work.

My Dad passed away last January. He had a sudden unexpected heart attack. He'd recently retired and never had a chance to enjoy it really. Although my pa wasn't all that book smart, he could fix anything and continues to be an inspiration for what you can accomplish with a little creativity and sweat equity.

So there -- probably more information than you needed to know, right?
