No more ice chips.
Kevin is on the home stretch now!! The WBC was up to 600 today, and for the first time they were high enough to actual get an ANC count--the all important one!! It was up to 106--needs to be 500 to go home. They are fully expecting Kevin to reach that goal by Wednesday. To prepare him to go home, the Dilaudid drip was stopped and will be given in pill form from now on. Another goal to reach before he can come home is to be able to comfortably swallow pills. As the cell counts continue to climb, the discomfort should be decreasing.
Kevin was finally able to eat a dinner meal last evening--a welcome reprieve after 2 1/2 days of ice chips! He has not had any abdominal distress since resuming regular food, which is FANTASTIC!! The light is definitely shining brighter at the end of the tunnel!
In preparation for Kevin to come home, Dick and I had to come home today to thoroughly clean the house. It was highly recommended that we dust and vacuum and wipe down everything before Kevin comes home to decrease risk of infection. Now for those of you who know me, you know that I am a pretty meticulous housekeeper. But now I am taking the term "squeaky clean" to new heights. We'll finish tomorrow morning, and then head back to Abbott. Hopefully that will be Kevin's last full day there!!
