How you doing? I'm just sitting here at work, completely bored, so I figured I'd get some letter writing out of the way. I think I've written more letters in the last week than I have in the past couple of months. We're only snipping shorts 1 or 2 days a week now, so I have a lot of free time on my hands. The bad thing about that is we have a new boss down here in UNICOR and now they won't let us bring down books, or art stuff, or anything to pass the time like we used to be able to. Oh well, there are worse things than being paid to write letters.
Not much has happened since we talked the last time you came to visit (which was a cool surprise, by the way.) I'm not doing as much drawing now that the major holidays are over. I just finished a picture I did based off the book coer to Stephen King's "The Gunslinger", and now I'm doing a Florida swamp scene. I was going to make a picture for Kevin where he would be shown from the knees up on a black background, looking like he did while he was in the hospital. I was going to put a succubus on his back and have her reaching around with arms and legs leeching into his chest and thighs and have the word "cancer" snaked into her hair. Kevin would be pushing her back off himself with one hand and reaching up toward the upper right corner of the picture with his other hand - like he was coming through the surface of a lake after drowning or something.
However, Mom wrote me and told me he doesn't want any pictures or anything that reminds him of when he had cancer - which I totally understand. So, I decided to do the Florida swamp instead. Maybe he'll change his mind or I'll do that picture just for my own satisfaction next year or so.
Other than drawing, I've been getting outside to play some beach volleyball and get some exercise. We're trying to get a league going on the weekends, but for right now, it's just a few guys going out 2 or 3 days a week. It's pretty fun. I got my first sunburn of the year a couple of weeks ago. I tell you - it's a nice change to be able to go outside during hte summer. I've been locked in county every summer since 2002. Even though I'm still locked up, it's nice to be able to go and enjoy the change in seasons. This has to be about the best time of year - not too hot, not too wet, starting to be lots of sun, and beautiful.
I actually felt old for the first time last week when I got my hair cut. I was sitting in the chair and all of a sudden the barber (I use that term rather loosely) started trying to ram the clippers in my ear like they were some sort of giant mechanic q-tip. I asked the guy what the hell he was doing, and he told me he was trying to cut the hairs growing out of my ear. Then he starts running them over my ear lobes and everything, like I'm Chewbacca and have hair growing out of everywhere. I'm not old enough to have hair growing on my ears! (Inside or out) Then, to add insult to injury, when he asks me if I want to leave my bangs long in front, and I tell him no - the guy's got the nerve to tell me I probably should try to comb them over my receding hairline!!! What the hell is this guy's problem? I'm 26 years old - the last thing I need to worry about is combing over a receding hairline. (Although I think I do have a couple inches more forehead than I did last year - seems like every morning I wake up now, I've got less hair. But the dumbass didn't have to bring it to my attention - after all ignorance is bliss.)
So by the time I get out, I'll probably be bald, fat (if I go in the same direction most of the guys in here are), broke, and a felon. But at least I'll be free! (Besides, I'm sure there's a website for women seeking old, bald, fat, broke felons!)
