We received the results of the PET Scan on Tuesday when Kevin arrived at the hospital and were very excited about the results. The large mass at the level of the aortic arch which measured 9 x 3.7 cm was now reduced to 2.8 x 1.8 cm. The mass that measured 9.3 x 3.8 cm at the level of the pulmonary artery is now 2.2 x 2.8 cm. The lymph nodes in the neck and armpits were now clear. So that shows that the cancer is responding well to the chemo. This also means if it is totally gone by the time Kevin completes his 4th round, he most likely won't need any radiation.
This round of chemo is very rough on Kevin. Today he wasn't able to get the oral Prednisone down with water--kept throwing up. So they ended up giving the steroids per IV. He was started on a strong mouth wash for oral thrush, but couldn't tolerate that today either. He is getting Ativan per IV to help with leg cramps, which also makes him very sleepy. His energy level is down to the minus digits. Boy, I can't wait until we can kiss this chemo poison good-by!! But it is killing the tumor cells--Thank God! At least now the end is in sight.
On Monday I worked very late at the office d/t Kevin's 3 hospital days being mid-week and was very tired when I finally got home. But I had the nicest surprise waiting for me. The counter was filled with beautiful flowers, 2 bottles of wine, a crystal bowl full of fresh strawberries and grapes, another crystal bowl full of creamy caramels, a beautiful birthday cake, and wrapped gifts and cards from Dick and Kevin. I wasn't expecting anything because on my actual BD date, Tues, I knew I would be with Kevin at the hospital. I think I'm getting spoiled--but don't tell anyone--I kinda like it!!
