Live from Bamberg...

July 10th, 2004 - 3:15pm by Slye Fox

Hello everybody (gotta remember that the 'z' and 'y' are swapped on a Deutsch keyboard, hard to get used to.) Plane was an hour late yesterday, but that's OK 'cause I got upgraded to first class, [big grin forms here]. Kicking back, putting the feet up, free drinks, better meal, personal LCD (watched Hell Boy), cute KLM staffed attendant, reading and napping all made the 10 hour flight quite bearable, very enjoyable in fact, :). Too bad I'm spoiled now, though. The trip home won't be nearly as nice.

Then off to the Frankfurt bahnhof to catch a train to W├╝rzberg and then to Bamberg. It wasn't one of those 200+ mph speedsters, but it went fast enough. And the two hour trip was over before I knew it. The passing countryside reminded me of the Appalachians in Pennsylvania. Except cozy little Bavarian villages with church steeples poking through dotted the landscape every mile or so with the train connecting them.

Volker and Norbert (my contacts for Bosch in Germany) picked me up at the station and off to work we went. After a beer and pizza anyway. The machine part took a little longer than anticipated, but that was mostly due to my lack of sleep. By 8pm the job was done. Took a taxi back to the hotel (great accommodations) and then off to the internet cafe, :).

Passed some sort of beer festival on the way here, so I'll have to check that out on my way back. Then tomorrow, Volker and Norbert will haul me around to see some of the sites. And we'll end the day at a local wine-fest. Sounds good to me! Well, gotta go - there're a couple of steins out there calling my name...

Indeed Deiter - "and now we dance..." [robotic twitching ensues].
I'll be staying at the Bamberger Hof. Seems quite adequate, :)

You know me, M, only travelling with my small backpack and toolcase. (Not much room for souvenirs like beer bottles.) But there are 9 different breweries in town and I'm doing my best to try as many as I can.

I know u'll do your best - fyi - don't let $ hold u back. Also - if u need to get an additional bag (like I had to get x2 in Brazil to haul all my stuff back).

Keep takin' those pics bro... can't wait to see what's up over there.

Best wished for upgrade on return.

Just a quick post from the Amsterdam airport. No 1st class this time, but almost home. Jetlag's gonna get me this time. Already falling asleep. Hope you all like this beer I'm lugging around, it's a bitch to carry. (It is the best beer I've ever had, though)

I wonder how it stacks up against the Hennepin beer from NY??
